My sister is on vacation in Italy at the moment and is keeping in touch by text. My Mum has received and sent quite alot of texts from/to her. Now heres somehing for you to think about - but write it down please it makes more sense: My sis text my mum at 7.44pm & when mum looked at clock in room when text came through it was 8.44pm she then text her back at 8.52pm - my sis then text back again at 8.03pm and the time on mums clock was 9.03pm she then replied at 9.12pm. You are thinking YEAH SO WHAT! Thats what I said to HER!........Italy are 1 hour infront of UK. Why didn't Mum's clock say 6.44pm??????Write it down it does help to understand what she is saying - it has NOT helped me to answer her question - SO I thought I would try on here - I text my Sis and asked her if she had changed her mobile to Italy time she said no she has left it at UK but to me it really does not make sense. It WILL probably be VERY simple (I hope) but I cannot get my head round it. It doesn't bother me about when she texts me back as long as she replies - but it is driving my mum CRAZY - and ME NOW!!!!. Can any please help. I bet everyone reading this will think I am really stupid but I just do not get it.
Thanks in advance. Please.

I wish I hadn't read this.

It is going to drive me mad.

We are currently in BST which is one hour ahead of the true time (GMT). This means that in reality Italy is two hours ahead of us.

So BST is not the answer. I hope somebody knows!
Ethel has really confused me now!!!

As both UK and Italy follow EU standardised Daylight Savings (Directive 2000/84/EC), Italy is always 1 hour ahead of UK.

kempie - you are right, of course.

I was merely 'thinking out loud' searching for a possible explanation in the hope it would prompt the correct answer from somebody.
i never use a mobile but could it be that the message is timed thru the time zone of the satellite/phone co that transmits it and not by the time on your mother's or sister's clocks or even the time zone of the country from which it has been sent

THIS is fantastic! Do you know what, I thought that everybody would just come back to me and say "Der you - it's because of............." and give me a quick, simple, easy to follow answer..............hee hee. Don't want to be cruel but it makes me feel SO much better that it is/was a REAL problem/mystery/annoying little thing!!! Thank you to everyone so far - I am going to read your posts again really slowly and try and get to the bottom of this. Thank you.But everyone please keep giving your ideas and solutions.

On one site it shows
The time stamp on the delivered SMS message does not reflect the correct local time?
The timestamp on SMS messages is unfortunately not a feature we can control. The timestamp with the delivery time is set by the international carrier responsible for the delivery. Most carriers will use GMT time for the timestamp, but they may also attempt to set the time for the destination country, or alternatively use their own local time.

(SMS is the "posh" name for text messaging by the way)

It sounds like the time showing on the Italian texts is GMT which is one hour behind the current UK time. The time on the first text was 7:44 and the time in the UK was 8:44 (or 7:44 GMT,) in the second one, the Italian text was sent at 8:03 and the UK time was 9:03 (or 8:03 GMT)

Thank you to all and THECORBYLOON - I printed off your post and read it once and then again and probably another 10 x and it does actually make a lot of sense - thank you VERY much. Raichu.
be careful some mobile phone providers charge the recipient for recieving a text message sent from outside the country
Good answer CORBYLOON, i've had that phenomenon before. It's pretty confusing when it says you received a text in the future...
