If they are using the phone?

No. If I don't want to speak to them and just want to leave a voicemail message. I think that there's a number you can insert between the code and the number which will bring you straight to the mailbox.
On orange I think you phone your own voicemail and there is an option to record and send a message. There maybe something similar with your provider.

Thanks but we're still not there. I have a friend living in Ireland who tells me that if he wants to phone someone living in Ireland on their mobile to leave a message but not to talk to he does this. For example, if his mate's number is 087 2222222, he puts the number 5 between the code and the number (regardless of whether his frien)d is with Vodafone, Orange or whatever, therefore dialling 087 5 2222222. This will bring him straight to the mailbox where he can leave a message. Simple, n'est pas? What's the equivalent in the UK?
I'm not sure about other networks but on Orange you simply dial 07973 100 123 (connects direct to Orange voicemail) then the number of the person you are calling (e.g. 07973 XXX XXX). You can then leave a message. Trs facile.
Well done to the other ABers for there excellent efforts. Why couldn't lewillow have just phoned orange etc?
