Is Episcleritis And Blephritis The Same Thing?...

It's a bit of an obscure question but maybe someone will know.
I've had eye problems that have been going for many years and had differing diagnosis according to who I saw from GPs and opticians till finally I was referred to an eye clinic about 3 years ago.
The eye consultant told me I had episcleritis which is probably related to the roseacea I have and if I took oral antibiotics it would help both problems and use eye drops also to help .
This made a lot of sense to me on researching the condition a little so was relieved to finally have someone diagnose the condition and offer treatments for it.
I usually see this same lady consultant every time as I have follow up appointments but today for the 2nd time I have seen someone different and like last time straight away they have started talking about my blephritis and offering me differing advice. When i look at the symptoms/images of blephritis it doesn't seem to tally with my problem and last time on using the consultants advice about using a hot compress it just made my condition flare up more.

It sounds a lot like Ocular Rosacea, which a relative had - compresses did help but antibiotics were also prescribed.

No, they are two different conditions, episcleritis affects the white of the eye and blepharitis affects the eyelids.
From your post, I couldn't make a diagnosis and I can appreciate your confusion.

The episcleritis completely tallied up with my symptoms Squad.
redness of the white of the eye (can be either eye)sometimes with discomfort .At its worse it gets very bloodshot and sore and even feels like my eye inside of my eye socket is v inflamed which is horrible. I understand this is a self limiting condition and this can happen when I try and ride a flare up out without using steroid eye drops-it just gets worse and worse .
My condition doesn't ever effect my eyelids in any way-no swelling or crustiness which seems to be the main symptoms of blephritis. My usual consultant never mentions blephritis and always calls it episcleritis.

Jennary....just to put a bit of meat on the bone....so to speak.....your description does sound like episcleritis and although the list of causes can be scrutinised by numerous links, which I am sure that you have done, the commonest cause is.......unknown.

if no 2 didnt radically change your treatment from the first one you liked then I wouldnt worry - it seems clear you can have both
