It's beautifully made (in Britain), it smells gorgeous, it looks lovely in the sitting room and... it is so uncomfortable! The cushions are hard and it is so high that my feet don't touch the floor when I sit on the settee.

The one in the shop was fine. I am really unhappy with the purchase. Can I send it back? Will it 'soften up'?

It is gorgeous, NoM. I just wish my legs were longer!
Do you want to borrow mine tillyxx;-)
Question Author
Have you got some spare ones, Bernie? Yes please.
Lol mrs c is the same her feet don't touch the floor either ..bless her
Question Author
Does she have a footstool?
I don't have very long legs, but mercifully they are quite toned.
Question Author
So are mine, Nom. Unfortunately, toning does not elongate them. perhaps I could get some platform soled slippers?
I always think that Chesterfields looks marvellous but are never high enough in the back, to be really comfortable.

This may be somewhat hard at the moment but leather furniture has a tendency to get much softer, very quickly.

It could be that the showroom model had been in place for some time, and the softening-up process could be well underway.
Question Author
Thanks, Mikey. It's like wearing new shoes, I suppose.
Yes, I suppose it is !

When you go back to the showroom, I wouldn't be surprised if the measurements are the same as the one you bought.

Invite some Big People over for the next few days, for Tea, and see if they can beat down the stuffing for you...... I am 19 stone and volunteering !
Question Author
Sunday, 5.00pm, Mikey. Bring some wine, please.

I went along to the shop with my trusty tape measure. The suite in the shop is at least 3 cm lower that the suite we have at home. A member of the service team is going to visit and have a look at what we feel the problem is.
Tilly...that is only an inch !...let us know the results please...I am on tenterhooks !
Question Author
An inch is a lot, Mikey, when you have legs that are an inch too short.

A footstool? My daughter has a beautiful leather Chesterfield and it was hard and uncomfortable for a while (she piled loads of stylish cushions on it). It did soften, but we don't have the leg-length problem. I love the look of them, but really need more support for neck and head.
Question Author
My legs are not particularly short, Jourdain. I wear 31 inch leg length jeans. The suite is too high.
Ah! 31" is not short, agree. Best of luck with the shop, sounds as if there may have been an error.
Question Author
We'll see, Jourdain. They do understand that I am not happy.

Thanks for all the answers.
