Hi - Tesco does a fruit or madeira cake in 3 different sizes - 5 inch - 7 inch and 9 inch - it also shows instructions on how to erect them ie. with pillars ih between...Possibly other supermarkets will do them but Tesco is really reasonably priced.

Thanks so much angel, the Tesco cakes sound perfect, will go and see them tomorrow. Regards, H.
M&S do a similar thing as well, I think you can have either sponge or fruit cake. My friend used them for her wedding last year and got the florist to make a little display to go on top. Looked smashing

I got the M&S cakes for my sisters wedding and got ribbon and silk roses from our local haberdashery shop to decorate them with, matching the colours of the brides & bridesmaids dresses.
I used pins to attach the decorations, a real no brainer and the photos look great!
My sister hates wedding cake and did not want to spend a penny more than she had to on it!!!!!!!!!

Many thanks Rocky and Ali, I will certainly go for either the silk or fresh flowers to match her bridesmaids colour, and will do a price check on Tesco versus M & S. Thanks for taking the trouble to answer you've solved my problem for me. Regards H.
Marks & Spencers are currently doing 3 for 2 on their wedding cakes.
Asda have a lovely tasting moist fruit cake with plain white icing that you could enhace. They came in small medium and large and were really good value for money.
M & S cakes are really lovely and well worth the money, you can even buy a sample to taste. My daughter had a three tiered fruit one and then a large chocolate one for guests who didnt like fruit cake http://groups.msn.com/HitchedPhotoAlbumMk-3/mu msalbum.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=12022
I bought 3 tiers, s, m and l, of the Asda cakes. I decorated them myself with ribbon (tartan as i married in Gretna Green ) and flowers. It looked beautiful and it must have totalled up to about 25.00 slighty cheaper than the hugely overpriced professional cakes.
