My father (now in his 70's) remembers singing lyrics to the tune The Dambusters March - but cannot recall them - anyone know them or where I could find them on the net? I've tried trawling through google but nothing.
Thanks

Hi Kenneto, Been running round the net and the only reference I can find is related to Jethro Tull, but for some reason everysite has the lyrics blanked out Rgds Al
There were lyrics to it?

I wonder whether they were created in the same way as some of the dubious lyrics to 'Colonel Bogey' and various other military marches. Some of the ones I know, I've never seen written down.
Check this out somewhere to confirm, but....

... I think this is the song I'll never stop loving you by Doris Day, and it came out around the same time.
i remember singing it in the school choir back in the 1960's:
It started something like:

"Proudly with high endeavour,
you who are young foreever,
won the freedom of the skies,
you shall never die"

There were several verses, but I cannot for the life of me remeber them!
I remember singing the Damn Busters March in a small choir in the early sixties. For some reason some of the words have stuck in my memory bank!
The second verse is:
We who have made our story
Part of our Nation's glory
Know our hearts will never die
While Britons fly
Lyrics by Carlene Mair 1954
Proudly with high endeavour, we, who are young forever,
won the freedom of the sky, we shall never die!
We who have made our story, Part of our country's glory
Know our hearts will still live on, While Britons fly
We Know our hearts will still live on

You who have seen us flying, hold to one hope undying
Someday over all the world, ev’ry war shall cease
Pray that a new generation, people of every nation
Take the highways of the sky, on wings of peace
They’ll Take the highways of the sky,

Sing for the splendour of living, sing for the gladness of giving
Thanks for all the happiness, any morning may bring
Sing for the world of tomorrow, leaving the past and its sorrow
Life belongs to those who lift their hearts and sing
For those who lift their hearts and sing

Songs of a new generation, brothers of every nation
We salute you as you fly far up into the blue
On the world of tomorrow, leaving the past and its sorrow
Lifting up our joyful hearts, to fly with you
And lifting up our joyful hearts.

In 1973 Richard Bewes adapted Psalm 46 for the march thus:-

God is our strength and refuge, our present help in trouble
And we therefore will not fear, though the earth should change
Though mountains shake and tremble though swirling floods are raging
God the lord of hosts is with us evermore
I remember when the march came out there was a version done by Billy Cotton I think on his bandshow on BBC radio. I remember some of the words were 'We, who have died for your freedom', you can see how that fits in, can't remember the rest, and there was the sound track from the movie on it as well, when attacking the dams. Maybe the BBC have something about this?
