I am changing a 2 pin plug for a 3 pin on a hard skin remover gadget.

However, there are only 2 wires and they are the same colour.
its kind of like speaker wire... a bit thinner than a normal wire containing a thinner brown and blue wire.

They're both white and the only difference is all along the edge of one is various words and numbers etc, and on the other there is a thick grey broken line
like this ___ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____

can anyone tell me which is live and which is neutral?

thanks

USA 110v power supply is limited to a maximum of 13 amps.
Need a double lead kettle then. Maybe two elements too ?
Actually, if US homes are supplied with 2 phases, might not be an issue anyway. Connect between them instead of to neutral.
Is the maximum not 15 amps in the USA. Eddies?
It was 13 amps when I lived on the Aramco site in Saudi Arabia which uses the US power system. I think it may have been increased to 15 amps now.
My point anyway, Eddies, was that your statement 'European kettles use 13 amps at 240v' is wrong, and misleading to anyone who doesn't understand electrics. Kettles, like all devices, use the current they need, which will depend on the wattage, and 13 amp is just the maximum rating of a standard UK socket.
^^Garaman....your statement "an average kettle is 1800 watts" is misleading, too. A large number of electric kettles are 3000/3100 watts...we have three, all are rated 3000 watts.
Fair comment.
