Question Author
hi fender
does not boot up
no lights . plug in battery
battery light shows for about 2 secs
otherwise nothing
if you have tried another charger and had the same result, id say the motherboard is dead or the input socket for the charger is faulty, if you know someone with the same charger you could try there's or buy an after market one off ebay £10 or less, i think its the charge port on laptop ? any good with a solder iron, you can buy the port on ebay solder old one out replace with new one.

Glad you got it sorted without having to spend out on it :)
Well done, Henry!
G'afternoon Henry......I am delighted that you found someone to 'put the boot in' and everything is back in order.

Many thanks for updating us on the matter. I often get frustrated by Computers/Laptops, especially when I can't solve what is sometimes a simple issue.

Hans.
Don't be put off that the shop got it going - as you will have gathered it is a common fault - why else would Dell and other manufacturers have solutions for this listed!

I suspect that time was a factor in it coming back - go figure!
gals you got it sorted, did they say what the fault was
V. Odd for this to be sorted by just pressing the ON button. COuld you have power failure on home plugpoint?
tamborine, that what i was thinking, then it occurred to me, maybe the pwr button was stuck contacts etc, i cannot really say anymore without actually testing it on my bench, but it works again for the op, so that good news
