I am generally polite and civil to cold callers.

But this evenings has left my flabber, thouroughly gasted.

She had my correct name and address and went on to tell me that I had one a £50 grocery voucher, I queried how this had come about and apparently it is because I have shopped at Tesco, Morrisons or Sainsbury. I said I doubt that and was challenged as to whether I had ever shopped in these supermarkets. I have but I cannot recall the last time I crossed the threshold of any of them.

I suggested I was being scammed and she snarled, 'now shut up and listen to me'.

I hung up, not surprisingly, I can live without an imaginary grocery voucher!

Bravo for being on the ball, just be careful in case they ask for your bank details, passwords and pin as the banks aren't reimbursing anyone who gets their accounts cleared out and quite rightly so!
Actually these calls are all recorded so it might be worth calling her manager and getting her fired.

I really CBA with that Quangoid!

It's a scam for goodness sake!
Been a long time since I last logged onto AB...anyway I too cannot stand cold callers of any kind. I'm often tempted to say one moment please and just leave the phone on the desk and simply leave them hanging on..Haha.
But I know when it's cold caller when there's a pause...and as they're about to utter something I say there's no one there, and then hang up.
Also if they ask to confirm my name whose speaking, and they reply saying that they're only going to ask a few questions and will only last a couple of mins....I simply say "I don't do surveys" and quickly hang up. Once I did do a survey, without giving my full details, and it lasted for at least 10 mins.
I'm very vigilant now when it comes to cold callers of any kind. Hehe...
Hi Imhotep - hows you? x
Hey mamya...Long time no speak. :-)
I'm okay-ish I guess. Been under the weather recently with a midriff ache, but nothing too serious yet though. My lower stomach is ok, but it's just the upper part of my tummy which has this slight ache all the time. Doesn't bother me much atm though. But will go to the docs if it gets any worse. Apart from that all is well. Luckily I hardly suffer from hay fever which is good. I read that lots of people have suffered from it this year.
Going back to my midriff problem, I'm having a very careful diet atm too. Eating less rich food and trying to eat more fruit, veg and wholemeal bread. But cutting back on bread a bit more now in case I've got a celiac problem, so if and when I do see the docs I'm gonna ask him for a celiac test if possible.
Good thinking re getting checked out - well done on the improved eating front too.

I'm well ta.
Glad you are well Mamya.
Yeah I've lost a bit of weight too with not eating much rich food. Don't eat much fatty meat. Haven't eaten any bacon for a very long time. Can't remember the last time I had a bacon sarnie. Haha..
I just wish i could get rid of this constant slight ache in my upper tummy/abdomen. Had a holiday week off work last week, but didn't go anywhere. Just stayed at home mainly. I was fine during Mon and Tues, but Tues night going into Wed this midriff ache started to appear. So most of the time I used my Tablet in my bedroom playing games on it and chatting to my best online Clan mates who I've joined up with.
Work gets me down...so boring, but at least it's a job at the end of the day and earning my keep. Logging off soon!
All the best x
Promise to get checked over and come back and let me (us) know, it will put your mind at rest.x
My sister has had phone calls about her computer needing rebooting!? The thing is she hasn't got a computer and never has had one! The last time, the young man on the phone said " I think you're telling lies " she said " and I think you're a very rude young man " then put the phone down on him.
I always tell them I have no computer , one yelled down the phone 'Do you know what century we are in?'

I replied, hang on a minute, I'll ask Matron.
Ok Mamya...will do. No problem.
One more thing, I don't know if you know this username at all, but just wondered if you knew Ice Maiden, or Icey as she's now known. She used to be on AB many moons ago...unsure if she was called Ice Maiden on here, but something tells me that it could have been.
Anyway, to tell a story short...she used to send me emails a while back, but recently I haven't heard a peep from her. There's a website called BFChat and a guy I know called Tomsk told me that she's recently been very ill. So I have sent her an email twice but still haven't heard a reply yet. I may log onto BF Chat to see if anyone knows anymore info.
Apologies to Eccles for going off track on this thread, but will get back to you as soon as I can. Take care x
Sorry to hear that about Icey, a lovely, clever and very witty lady - if you do get in touch send my best.

Sorry from me too Eccles.
A good few years ago when I was laid up with a bad leg and couldn't get outside I got really fed up with the phone going off all the time. The next time it rang it was a man with foreign accent which was a bit hard to understand. I decided I would see if I could get him to ring off first so I just kept saying I m really sorry but I can't understand you can you repeat that please? It worked! He rang off, Result! Try it next time you're fed up with them?
Never had any calls about my computer....yet!
My dad once told me many years ago...NEVER ever give any of your bank or personal details over the phone, and always be very vigilant when people ask you for things like that.
Always a good idea to call your OWN insurance companies or Bank, or whatever, instead of them calling you.
I sure will send Icey your good wishes mamya

Yes Cleodog....my mum is terrible hard of hearing so if she ever answers the phone and a cold caller talks in poor English she often says "Sorry I cannot understand" and simply hangs up.
Can't say I blame her mind,. Most often they are callers from foreign places who have bad accents and talk poor English.
