I wonder if they will get free rent, or given a year or two to get their lives back together?

it's still unclear whether the cladding was approved or not; Hammond suggested not.

They're now suggesting insulation boards gave off hydrogen cyanide gas, suggesting they certainly shouldn't have been approved. Does nobody actually test these materials before putting them on the market? Set light to one and see what happens?

You would like to think so, but that doesn't seem likely in this instance.
Can we stop blaming the contractors wholly? Whoever specified it and whoever approved it bears more responsibility. Building regs should also be tightened up. Immediately.
Who's blaming the contractors?
it really does seem there are an awful lot of people in line for a good suing. Almost everyone who had anything to do with the oversight of the building appears to have failed wretchedly.

Ah, right.
Hydrogen Cyanide is formed in almost all fires.
https://www.sp.se/en/index/research/hydrogen_formation/Sidor/default.aspx
It is a very common combustion product. It would be more surprising if Hydrogen Cyanide was NOT formed !
Chemically it is just a combination of Nitrogen, Hydrogen and Carbon formula HCN .
Eddie, It appears that the volume of HCN produced by fire is directly related to the construction of the material burning.

//Understanding CO and HCN is especially crucial to today’s fire service, because the smoke that firefighters were exposed to 20 or 30 years ago is not the same as it is today. Wood, cellulose, cotton, silk, wool, etc., were bad decades ago, but they were nowhere near as toxic as the chemically-manufactured materials of today.//

Since they all seem to be migrants, our duty is to house them, but not necessarily in ultra expensive London.

Offer them accommodation in less expensive areas of the UK.
All areas need a lower paid workforce, as well as any rich folks in the area. Building affordable housing nearby seems a decent plan. Causes problems expecting the lower paid to fund commutes over long distances to get to a low paid job.

initially it was preorted the cladding was polyurethane - that has (-CNO-) sequences and will give off some cyanide when burnt

then someone went out of its way to say it was polyethylene which in short doesnt

( 60% of the production of polurethane is used into the building industry)
