The House of Lords is essential, in my opinion, to keep the government in check. For a more detailed explanation of what they do:

very valuable, for the reasons hc4361 gives. I think there should be a tighter rein on their appearance money - some seem clearly to be cheats - and I'd like to see an upper house free of party-political voting, but as long as they're appointed by party politicians that's not going to happen. As they have a job for life, they're more likely to break ranks with party whips, fortunately.
It is very transparent. This shows you what bill has been voted on, the result, and who voted how.

Wish I could go asleep and be paid upto £300 for doing it ...
If it bothers you so mutch, you should vote for a party that wants to get rid of the lords
House of Lords Thy get £300 a day for dozen of to sleep in the house. And cheap food and drink costing the tax payer a lot of money for very little in return
