Why do you want to avoid Waterloo?
You could get off at Vauxhall and take the Victoria Line to Green Park and change to the Jubilee Line for St. John's Wood
I agree with Calibax. I quite often get off the train at Vauxhall and get the Victoria line so as to avoid the Northern and Bakerloo lines at Waterloo but that is because I am a regular traveller. I can`t see any other reason to want to avoid Waterloo
You can travel into Paddington instead by changing at Basingstoke. You can then walk the 1.3 miles from there in under half an hour. You could reduce that walk by taking a Bakerloo train for one stop to Warwick Avenue. (Buses don't help much as you'd need to change)
^^^ You might not need to change at Basingstoke, as some trains from Salisbury run to Paddington anyway (via Westbury).
