We have a six year old quite large dog, alsation/springer cross. He was always and still is excitable but in a nice way. It was our first dog and we tried to train him but we didn't make a good job of it. We have 4 cats and he gets on famously with them all. Is it possible still to train him at this late stage. He does respond very well to many verbal commands. In particular with our granddaughter who is 19 months old. He has never bothered her except trying to lock her to death.
