Hiya, I'm a fan of Jeff Wayne's musical version of War of the Worlds, and in particular, think the first track Eve of the War is amazing. I've been trying to find more music with a similar style/sound to this first track. The obvious choice seemed to be to find more Jeff Wayne music but I can't seem to find any other albums. The second choice was the Justin Hayward link - so I've tried a couple of Moody Blues albums [On The Threshold of a Dream, A Question of Balance, and Days of Future Passed] but to no avail - Anyone know where I could find some similar music?

[The Moodies albums are still great tho btw ;)]
Have you tried 'journey to the centre of the earth' by Rick Wakeman? "Five days out to see they witnessed a terrifying battle between two sea monsters......" Perhaps not quite the same, but similar certainly.
Journey To The Centre Of The Earth is great. Also Ken Freeman, who was a session musician on WOTW, went on to compose the soundtrack for the BBC's "Tripods" TV series, you can get the CD from his site http://www.topnote.co.uk (he also composed the "Casualty" and "Holby City" themes, but don't let that put you off!)
I was playing the "Ladyhawke" soundtrack the other day (by Andrew Powell and Alan Parsons - of "project" fame), and Mme LeMarchand thought it sounded like WotW, which I agreed with to some extent (no singing, though). There are some samples at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000001P1O/qid =1095283461/sr=8-6/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i6_xgl15/104-7552407-69895 06?v=glance&s=music&n=507846. I stuck "Jeff Wayne" into http://www.musicplasma.com/and it threw up The Moodies and Rick Wakeman as the closest matches, but it might be worth your time to explore the links. I've not heard it, but apparently he did a version of "Spartacus", but it's not easy to track down (try eBay). A couple of different items listed here: http://eil.com/shop/ExtSearch.asp?DiscArtist=Jeff-Wayne
Hey adzy31 I know of maybe 2 Led Zeppelin songs that are in that vain. Achilles Last Stand and the mighty classic Immigrant Song. The Immigrant song being about Vikings and all that but the music is very good. Very fast paced riff work. And Achilles Last stand being in the same vain for War Of The Worlds.
Jeff Wayne's "Spartacus" was released on CD by Columbia/Sony (Cat #472030 2) in 1992.
