One of my wife's friends has asked if she can get her wages
paid into my wife's bank account otherwise her benefits will drop. I detest this kind of thing and on principle want her to say no, but wanted to know if my wife
Could get into trouble should her friend ever get caught defrauding? Would she be liable for prosecution for helping her commit fraud?

Thanks

If that's the case then Eddie you need to let the government know because they allow benefits to be paid into which ever account you name.

It is your choice if you get them paid into an account that you do not have direct access to!
You are wrong. I'm not married so my OH has no legal connection to me. I could call anyone my partner.

Money enters his account from *my employer* and is referenced *my name*

He doesn't even have to reference it though.
The best thing your wife can do for her friend is report her to the authorities within a month or so of her starting work.
the intent is to hide income..therefore not declare it = fraud
How would your wife explain the rise in income into her bank account to HMRC?
Haha, I just KNEW this would be a magnet for those punishment-hungry types who just can't resist giving *just a little bit more* than advice.
That said, I would steer clear and get your wife to advise her friend to declare her earnings to the DWP, she might not have her benefits cut by very much if the extra money is low.
I've had one-off jobs while I was signing on and declared all of them, from memory my benefits weren't affected at all.

hmm not the best thing perhaps
but the thing that will happen in the end

a lot of benefit fraud is reported by other erm dolees who look at the better standard of living and think "I'll soon fix that ...."
