ps2 -clean inside

my ps2 is behaving strangely with disc read errors and a "tripping out" noise-admittadely i was using a lot of used games where scratches could cause such a problem, but there are a regular few used games that work fine, but oddly i bought 2 new games and they did not run at all - so has anyone opened up a ps2 to clean it -what were the results? ive seen a few websites and most of the solutions are utter bilge and the cleaning the ps2 process does seem worryingly lenghty

I thought I'd save a bit of money cleaning the inside of a ps2 rather than buying a new one. Long frustrating hours, cotton buds, special cleaners, cans of compressed air, surgical spirit. Result: I bought a new PS2!
Unless you have some very technical equipment and a lot of patiance once a lazer goes on these machines the console is kaput. Cleaning won't repair what is essentially an electro machanical fault.
