I have recently had an extension built on my house. There is now a new bedroom where the flat roof used to be on top of the kitchen; the old bathroom is now part of a larger landing area and the old box bedroom is the bathroom. Will I need to take out a new home insurance policy? Do I need to do anything with regard to insurance?

Inform your insurance company that you've had work done, but probably as you've ended up with the same number of bedrooms there won't be an increase in premiums, which are normally based on re-building costs. But, depending on the company, as you've now got a house with a larger floor area the premium could possibly increase.
Insurance companies are notorious for wheedling out of paying claims and it is highly likely that they would do so in this case if you didn't inform them of the change. Better safe than sorry - tell them (If they up the premium you can always try elsewhere for cheaper quotes).
Did you inform the insurance co of works taking place? If not you really should have done. If anything had happened during the extension being built, and you needed to claim, theres a chance the claim would have been denied.

In regards to taking out a new policy that shouldnt be the case, just the details need to be updated, and the possibility of having to increase your buildings sum insured. So yes call your insurance company up and let them know

Thanks for your answers. I will let them know just to be safe. I'd never thought about informing them whilst the work was going on.
If you plan to do a house extension, it is worth to update your insurance policy. There's no need to purchase a new one. This will give you the right level of protection against risks associated with your home extension project. If you need further advice on this matter, feel free to visit: www.homeplanningsw.co.uk.
