I have been watching this on ''CBS Reality'', the past week, and although its an American programme, I think it would be a good idea for the British tearaway, who think they are in the big time.

They range from 14/18yrs, boys & girls, and have all been in trouble, drugs, thieving, fighting, etc.
They spend the day at some of the hardest prisons, and are given the once over by, right in the faces of murders, rapist, kidnappers etc, and belittled, not knowing if they are going to be there for a day or a week.

They are shown where they have to share the toilets, and showers, and are warned, that a lot of the prisoners, are looking for a nice young boy or girl.

What a difference their attitude is, from before going in, to coming out.

Fantastic idea in principle and undoubtedly has some success in the US. But here there'd be an army of Lord Longford's who'd wring their hands at the psychological trauma and breech of 'yooman rights' innit?
I also have watched this series with some interest, and have thought similar thoughts to your own. But, as ChillDoubt has pointed out, it just would not be allowed here. There will always be the do gooders who think our youth should be molly coddled, and not punished for their wrong doings.
How many times has the 'short sharp shocked' treatment been mooted and dismissed?

Yeah...that's all cancer patients need is a load of teen gawping at them.
There has been a very recent newspaper article ( within the last couple of weeks) saying that this has proved not to have worked. Young criminals feel that, after treatment like this, there is no shock awaiting them. There is some suggestion that there may even be a negative effect, where young criminals find that they have something to boast about to their mates.
