Is this possible or is there a chance it won't hold?

You will be able to fix to at least one timber in the studded wall.

A way of fixing the bracket is to cut a piece of mdf slightly smaller than the bracket, fix to the timber and glue to the plaster board.

See if this helps, fruitsalad.

Thank you
Similar to what Turbot mentioned ... I would cut a piece of MDF or plywood, smaller than the TV (so that it won't show when it's hung up.)

Screw the board into as many studs (upright timbers) as you can. You'll usually get enough fixings to hold the board Ok.

Fix the brackets to the board anywhere they're need.

I'm assuming the studs are timber, and not metal studs.
