Hi all

Just wondering, my sister has been given a £75 fine for putting a cigarette butt down a grid in the local park. Is this correct? It wasn't that she put it on the grass or threw it down. She tried to dispose of it responsiblely. Is this £75 fine correct? Just seems excessive.

I think it's very harsh, it's quite legal to smoke in parks at the moment so what is one to do? many smokers are in fact responsible - I don't put ends in a bin in case I cause a fire.
Although I'm not a smoker I would ask the local council if this is a correct amount.
so you lob em on the floor then prudie? get ready for your fine, they are clamping right down on this.
Unlike dropped food or paper cigarette buts do not decompose . They will just stay there unless someone removes them. An £80 fine is the usual now so £75 is cheap.

They can cause a lot of harm to wildlife, too.
The difference I was making earlier between a cig butt and food was you tend to slip on the latter if you can't or don't see it.

As I say all littering is bad.

Plastics harm wildlife more than fag ends do.
no TTT I lob them down a drain
I wish these councils would "follow" dog walkers !!!!
^^ There is a £1000 fine for letting a dog foul the footpath. A lot more than dropping litter.
A thug with a spliff and a pit bull carping all over the park wouldn't have been noticed.

Dudley Council actively target dog owners who don't clear up after their dogs.
