I've always been of the opinion that chatty conversation does not need to be over starchy and adhere to strict rules of grammar.

Life can be dull enough at times, stir it up a bit.

IMO That's one sentence with "but" in the middle, JD.

A possible example is:

"But, is the one word with which you ought not start your sentence."
