New World Cup Section

ABE what has prompted the introduction of a section devoted to one particular event? The last time I looked football was a sport so why is it not confined to that topic? There are hundreds of questions about crossword clues but I don't see a Crossword Topic being introduced.

Big Brother is on for a longer period, will there be a topic for that?

Because it's quite a major event that a lot of people will enjoy. I'm sure it's only temporary and will be gone as soon as the World Cup has finished.

:Ace if it's only temporay why have it to begin wi? Folk have been asking for the same new Topics all the time and have been knocked back. I can't mind on a General Election Topic but that is something affecting us all in the UK.

The olymics are a major event, so are the commonwealth games and the eurovision song contest, why didnt we have a catagory for them?

Never mind, us Scots can use it to laugh when england get booted out

Over the next few weeks the sports section is going to be overwhelmed with questions about the world cup and no other sports question will be answered. This is needed to filter all it out. It would also attrach more members if there is a section spefically for the cup.
I hate football, but if I was Ed, I would do the same thing

potterfan, no doubt the Arts & Lit Topic will be full of postings when a new Hoary Patter book is out but you'll not see a section devoted to that. The General Election generates much discussion but again no specific Topic.

I wonder if ABE can tell us how many requests for a new World Cup Topic were made prior to this morning?

alot of people talk about the world cup, and lot of people talk about the general election. But the fact is almost everyone is excited about the Cup, people don't get excited about politics even if they do talk about. It seems that Ed is excited and it is their site after all.

there is a quizzes and puzzles section already...surely crosswords fit into that.

i agree with you though, i think the ed only does what he/she wants to do, not what the members want

I agree ....I am not a football fan (ducks) but each to their own and I can see that the Sport section could get bunged up with World Cup threads pushing other stuff down the page Perhaps it's only a temp thing until it's all over . But ..I do think other suggestions for various topics could have at least been considered ..after all people have been asking for ages for ones on Crafts, Hobbies , etc.etc.ad infinitum.
Film and TV is bunged up with BB...another bone of contention.
Crosswords are catered for in Q&P.
Sub headings is the way to go ..as has also been pointed out countless times.

Shaney, it irritates me when the same suggestions keep appearing yet they are rejected because there is too much going on in the pipeline or because there's a "y" in that day of the week or whatever.

Taking up your serious point, it seems to me now that it's obviously very easy to create a new section, but as you say after waiting for months, even years, for a proposed new section which the Ed has agreed would be a good idea, it now makes all the excuses unjustified.

I personally think it's a great idea .I love football and I think it is a lot more interesting than BB.
