Its a beautiful evening here in the far west of Cornwall, Its been really warm all afternoon, but its now starting to get a bit cold....understandable of course...it is still only March !

But the bird song here on my caravan site is simply marvellous. I never seem to hear it at home, but here its clear and beautiful.

One aspect of caravanning is that you get to hear and see nature rather sharper than you do at home. The 'van is well insulated as far as the cold is concerned, but not so good sound-wise......as usual, I shall be awakened by bird song very early tomorrow morning !

The site owners keep guinea fowl, who seem to make a noise out of proportion to their size ....they roost in the big pine tree a few yards from my 'van, so I have that to look forward to, as well as sparrows gullumping across my fibre glass roof, like a herd of elephants !

Sounds ideal Mikey. The robins and blackbirds seemed to make most of the noise, not forgetting the crows and wood pigeon. At least the noise is natural, not like busy motorways, motorbikes etc. Enjoy your time in caravan in beautiful Cornwell.

Thanks Patsy......I have every intention of so-doing !

There has been a Thrush, lurking around the 'van this afternoon. I have scattered some fruit cake crumbs, which he/she seems to enjoy !

But Little Willy isn't keen, begrudging as he is of every morsel that doesn't come his way. And yes, Yorkies DO eat fruit cake ( given half the chance ! )
I was thinking about this when I woke up this morning - that if I lived in the centre of a city such as London or New York, I would never hear birdsong.
Mikey, you must not let Willy eat fruit cake! Raisins and sultanas are poisonous for dogs.
I'm sure you'll see a variety of birds in the next few days. We have a caravan in Dorset, and last year me and a friend were enjoying a cup of tea inside when a little Robin hopped into the kitchen looking for crumbs. He just stopped and stared at us for several seconds before going back out the door. Cool as a cucumber! It made my day, as I love robins.

Patsy.....a couple years ago, in June, I was sitting having a cup of tea and reading the paper, with the big heki skylight in the 'van wide open.

I could hear a bird, hopping about on the roof and suddenly he dropped right through the open skylight, on to my Guardian !

He sat there looking at myself and Willy, a bit stunned, as we were ! But I realised that I had to act quickly, as Willy was starting to growl, so I upended a plastic beer glass, thankfully empty ! and popped it over the bird.

I am not sure what it was....small and sparrow like. I kicked Willy out the door, as he was getting a tad agitated, and then thought next ? I remembered that little birds can have a heart attack if they are frightened, so I left him under the beer glass for a 5 mins or so, and then carefully deposited him in the hedge !
