recommend educational toy to stimulate imagination of 4 year boy?

As a starting point though, I included one of these with a very special 5yo boy's Christmas presents recently; puppets always seem to go down well with kids and inspire their imaginations:

Tesco do a cheapo version of Brio which works with Brio.
do they Sherr ?? ...really good stuff and kids have years of fun..also trains/track/buildings can be added over the years...big plus....NO POWER required..only a child's imagination !!
Play doh is fantstic. You need to concentrate on what the child can do with the toy rather than what the toy can do :)
We're past brio now but the Tesco stuff is indistinguishable.
