Mikey has it right, of course. There is no other way. Anything else is just madness. :)
You have to put ter tea in first otherwise it isn't tea.
Doc Brown has it right ...

wiltsman...just common sense to me !

On a side issue, my old Mum went to her grave 20 years ago, never knowingly or willingly ever having consumed tea from a bag. I can remember her tearing one apart when I was a young lad and comparing the black dust therein, with the "proper" tea leaves in her tea caddy.

Tea pots were the order of the day. She must be rolling in her grave these days, as my tea pot rarely comes out of the cupboard.

But I have one of those plunger tea pots which I might bring out later today, as this debate has fired me up !

Ellipsis...thanks for the Doc Brown clip ! I have seen it before and I think it just gets funnier every time.

And he is bang on the button of course !
What's wrong with a tea strainer, Mikey?
I don't drink tea but I do make it for OH. I always just pour boiling water onto a tea bag and stir, add a little milk, keep stirring depending on colour.
Nothing Cloverjo, although I don't know where mine went.

But those Bodum things work very well. The plunger bit stops the tea from brewing, after its pushed down, and the result is a very satisfying cup of tea.
I've had compliments on my tea from builders and they know good tea ;-)
Forget that faff, this is best & add cold water to drink immediately.

One might brew black tea with boiling water, but by the time you pour it into your bone china/porcelain cups the teapot and standing time will have cooled it.

In any case one has teabags these days unless you are one of those rare traditionalists. The bag goes into the large mug, and then you pour the boiling water over it. It stands for a while, you stir/bash it about a bit, remove the bag. Then the rest is added to taste. Although it is the milk that makes change as it is chilled and drops the temperature further; something you should avoid prior to brewing. Sugar/sweetener can be added in earlier if desired.
Bang on the button OG !
Why does the sugar go in earlier? I put it in after the brewing and the milk.
Milk last, definitely !
I can remember some years ago on the programme Countdown they had a guest who was relating a tale of when he had stayed overnight at a Stately Home. At breakfast it was the routine to help oneself from the sideboard & one Gentleman was pouring himself a cup of tea when his wife sitting at the table exclaimed in a very cultured voice '' what on earth are you doing darling'' he replied '' I'm pouring myself a cup of tea'' she said ''but you're putting the milk in first which is what the common people do & why we call them The Mifs ( milk in firsts).
No one as yet has mentioned the absolutely essential pre-warming of the mug/cup/tea-pot...Tut, tut!
Morning Stuey !

How is the weather you this week....big snow arrived yet ?
We used to use loose tea when Mr c and I first got married....one teaspoonful of tea for each cuppa and one for the pot!
A balmy minus 10 this morning. We really haven't had much snow so far...I think it must be some kind of record-breaking snowless year. That's OK with me.
My friends south of you in New Hampshire have minus 16 at the moment !
Not much snow though.
