what happens to the title " the prince of wales " when charles is crowned king? does it automatically pass on to prince william ?

i would'nt have thought the title would automaticlly go to william as charles went through a special ceremony to become prince of wales, investure or something like that, surely william would need to do likewise.

thanks to you both, in a pickle ,what an interesting web site that was,another one for my favourites

The title *can* pass automatically from one person to another, but not when Prince Cahrles becomes king. If Prince Charles were to die, then Prince William would automatically inherit the title and become Prince of Wales in his place. If Prince William were to die, then his eldest son would do so. But it does not go any further than two generations, and it wouldn't go to Prince Harry.
