I know this is going to sound like a stupid question - but here goes anyway !!
I have to prepare a meal for 50 people in a week or so. It is a simple enough menu - sausages and mash. However, I am stumped as to how many bags of potatoes I shall need, using the 1.75g bags
I should be very grateful of any suggestions

I assume you mean 1.75 kg bags ?

Pure guess on my part but look at what a 225 gm potato looks like. If that seems about right then 50 * 225 = 11.25 kg.

About 7 bags ? But it depends on how large a meal you want to give each. Could be double that.
if you allow 250g.(1/2 lb approx) per person then that would be about 7 bags.
and that is about as close as anyone gets to agreeing on AB
:-) Some of us are watching our weight (grow).
It would be cheaper to buy a 25kg bag of spuds from a farm or farm shop - any left over would be a bonus!
Yikes! I would usually say a bag of the type you mentioned would do for 6 people. So you'd need 8 bags.
How are you going to cook them all, and the massive amount of sausages?
If you have no way of weighing them the method I always use is this, I peel the potatoes and allow one good handful per person, this is a very good guide. Good luck.
If you've got to produce this meal next week, you need to start spud bashing today. :-)

Many thanks for your replies - wish me luck !!!!!!
Good luck.
It's only a guess but logic used is that I would expect to serve 4 portions from a single bag so 50/4 gives a need for around 12and half so I would go for 13 bags. Will be cheaper to buy them loose though. Happy peeling
