If England Still A Christian Country?

Sweeping up leaves this afternoon I was pondering on things as I usually do when I was reminded that children today do not appear to know The Ten Commandments and then by way of testing myself I tried to remember all ten without looking them up.
I wonder if any of the other older Abers can remember them without looking them up. Do not cheat and do not list them either please.

i think that probbly more people in this country are not christain than re. Also, of those tht would nominally identify as " church of england" probably never set foot in a church

I never learnt the ten commandments - I got to 'thou shalt not covet thy neighbours wife' and lost interest....

I suppose it depends on one's definition of 'Christian'. When I was in the Army, I had to state my religion on official forms, and it was always 'CofE', even though I wasn't a particularly 'religious' person. 'CofE' was just a convenient label.

I can remember 'Thou shall not bear false witness' and lots of coveting of wives and houses and of course 'thou shalt not kill'.

I was at school late 70's early 80's at a CofE school and I don't remember them being taught. I was also a frequent church goer and again I don't remember them being discussed in church!

By the size of the congregation in our rural Lincolnshire church this morning, l would say that Christianity is definitely alive and well.

Why would they know? It isn't relevant. No, I definitely don't think it's a Christian country. From helping probably hundreds of elderly people fill in forms, where, almost without fail, they automatically put some form of Christianity, but then say they actually aren't.

I can remember 8 of them, but as I'm not allowed to list them you'll have to take my word for it :-)

I am in lincolnshire as well, and must agree with DSJ. I also read in a local paper that a closed down church in Skegness had to re-open owing to the polish community being catholic and the few churches that were open couldn't cope with the increased congregation.

I learned my catechism aged about 7. I can still recite the commandments, word for word, King James version. In order. Even though I am a profoundly-considered atheist.
