snows falling but no clouds

snow is lightly falling, almsot straight down, but there isn't any clouds for a miles or so in each direction.

Theres no wind to blow it off trees and even if it was, theres no trees near enough to make it fall like it is.

Where's it coming from?

The sky is blue but there's the thinnest layer of cloud imaginable, i didn't notice it at first, but i didn't think a cloud that thin could make so much snow.
moisture condensing out of the air and then freezing and falling down. This happens when the Sun is out.

R1, it was probably a bit of what you describe (has it got a fancy scientific name?) and the thin cloud, because i don't think there was much of it.
well it's precipitation really just that usually there is a cloud present but the same process is happenning, water is forming heavier than air droplets and falling.
