Yep; used to go every year from when I was about 6 to when I was about 16; Wales and Cornwall mostly. Definitely the best camping story I have is when we went to Devon to watch the eclipse (from near Coventry) and realised we'd forgotten the tent poles. Mum and my brothers shared a little 3 man tent for the night whilst me and dad travelled back home to get the poles, was a long journey!
Found a sweet little brown snake with a dark V on its head inside the tent......an adder.....spent a night giving moles a headache as they kept trying to pop up underneath our sleeping bags........night spent inside all the sleeping bags wrapped together with kids either side, hanging onto each other as the gales ripped the windows out of the tent......magnificent thunderstorm in south of France through which OH slept soundly snoring even louder as he'd just necked a bottle of vino.........the giant pinecones that fell like bombs in Jard sur Mer...........too many stories, but a great deal of fun
Breaking my wrist at the beginning of our 2nd week of camping in the lakes. That was bad ebnough, but on the day i did it, we were so long at A&E (5 n half hours) that they said they didn't have time to plut a plastercast on, so they put a temporary sling on it and sent me on my way.

Never EVER try sleeping on an air bed, with a partner, and a broken wrist in an arm sling with no support.

i seen the eclipse as well,my son and i were on the telly with they weird glasses.
I camped every year for years and years.

There were four of us - two of us (and one dog) used to share a little 4 man tent and the other two (and their subsequent baby) used to have the main frame tent.

5 years ago the advance party managed to pitch the frame tent in the wrong field with a very angry pair of ewes
4 years ago he managed to pitch the frame it in a slight dip so when it rained we had 6 inches of water under the ground sheet.
3 years ago he managed to put it on a wasps nest
2 years ago I texted him as we were on our way up to say "so which natural disasters have you selected for our torture this year". He texted back "bring ant powder urgently".

Only at Glastonbury. I hate it...

Hottest days of the year last year but still froze my willy off at night. The dimlos erected the tent on a slope so we woke up huddled in the corner each morning :-(

Camping sounds exciting to me ...as someone who has never been camping or slept in a tent ever.
The wife will not even consider it, because she has been camping as a teen with her family and say's it cold , damp and involves public toilets and showers.

So our motto now is ...if you can't plug the hair dryer in , we aint staying
I went camping in Bavaria. I was 18 at the time. There were 10 of us. I have never had so much fun. Wouldn't fancy it now though.
Where I used to camp we didn't even have toilets and showers! We had a burn - that did for everything (but in a very particular order!)
Like Mosaic I remember going camping in France when I was younger, we use to stay with eurocamp at a place called Soulac Ser Mer on the west coast and I can remember massive thunder storms that lit the tent up all night, and I can remember going camping with my parent in their caravanette at a place called Malmsmeade in the lorna doone valley on Exmoor and some campers arrived with their new "force 10" tent and the thing got more or less blown away during the night and they all ended up sheltering with us.

Dave.
I camped in the out-back in Australia over new years eve last year. I hate camping at the best of times but doing it under the auzzie sun (way in to the thirties and very likely in to the early fourties temperature wise) in which we had to erect the tents as well as a canvas shelter was fun. The main source of entertainment was either cutting down dead trees while trying to avoid the huntsman spiders, avoiding the boys on their off road bikes thing, getting the fire going in said temperatures for dinner later, being wary of kangaroos (not the cute fuzzy wuzzys I thought they were, in fact really quite sinister) and peeing in a bin type thing while crossing your fingers something deadly wasn't going to bite your bum.

Oh... and the ground literally moved with all the ants of which there were three varieties, the ones that bite, the ones that should venom outside their butts at you and the bull ants which are just hideous and had a nest 10ft away from the tents.... Have I ever mentioned my effing fear of bugs?!

Camping my arse.
China - that one had me laughing out loud.
bm wasn't it you that got bitten on the flanjita by midges whilst camping???
lmao, yes Fluffy it was!!!!!

I posted on the other CB at the time - they were wetting themselves laughing.
Went backpacking in Albania last year,in one of those very low one man tents, woke up one morning and the first thing I saw was a huge praying mantis inches from my nose!
i remember i think i was one of them :-) i hate camping. i love the being on the beach round the campfire part of it but the tent part of it ugh
