I have always wanted to live and work abroad for a short period of time. I'm 27 and don't have a partner, or any kids. However I have a lowly profession as a bar maid, so it's not as if I am a nurse, doctor or teacher - which is what I always thought you had to be to even consider working abroad (a professional).

Is this true? Or are there other avenues?

I'd love to do this before I am a lot older, settled or have a family as I'd hate to look back with regrets, but I'm not even sure where to begin.

possibly if you were to do a health care training course there it would give you the canadian experience you want and the career that will give you a more positive future?
I doubt that you'll be able to get a Canadian work permit but, for full information, start here:

My daughter went to Canada, near the St Lawrence Seaway as a volunteer on a whale conservation programme, she was there for 2 months, absolutely loved it. She had to pay a lump sum to cover her costs, and also pay for her ticket, but living with a group of volunteers from all over the world and being out on the river in little boats looking for, and monitoring the minke whales - she just had a fantastic time.
A working holiday might be easier to arrange. Start here:

I agree with Buenchico. Canada's not so easy to get into. Still try if you can. Why not try the U.S.? There are many educational opportunities there that might get you a work permit. What made you choose Canada? Do you know anyone that might be able to help you there?
