How to sit next to each other? Is it possible?

If 2 different people are travelling from to different countries to the UK but stop at Amsterdam to get their connecting flight. Their connecting flight by chance happens to be the same. Do you think it is possible for them to sit next to each other? The reason is because you only check in at the first airport and not at the second. Is there a way around this?

It's possible but not guaranteed that by asking when you get to Amsterdam it could be arranged - ie a change of seat allocation

Unless they are travelling by an airline that allows on line seat selection?
