Hi, I have worked at both Glasgow and Edinburgh airports and never been aware of a direct flight to Santorini, unless it is a holiday charter or Air Scotland flying under the banner of Air Greece is starting a service there. Anyhow, even if you cant get a direct flight there, the ferry services are very good from neighbouring islands. If i remeber correctly Santorini(Thira) is only about 5hours on the slow ferry from Pireus the main port in Athens. It is closer to Crete and I would be very suprised if there was not a ferry link between the two. As for your holiday there I am sure you will enjoy it. I was there in June 2003 and fell in love with the place. To the north of Thira town, an area called Firostefani, said to be the romantic quarter, I would highly recommend accomodation in "Maria Damigous" guest house. The price was haggled down to 55 Euro's per night. It was an apartment style room with a balcony overlooking Therasia to the NW, the volcanic islands of Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni along with Akpotiri on the southern tip of the horse-shoe shape island to the SW. Amazing sunset views every night leading into beautifully lit night scenes of the surrounding area. A very pleasant town with many bars and taverners, more geared towards tourism similar to Paros but much higher prices coming into season. Some good places to eat are the Posidon, cafe Diverso, Arcobaleno cafe, Peubin villa and Palia Skala. Fresh fish is always good and the local wine "Lava" is excellent. From Firostefani walking North, just beyond a church, there are alot of Taverners overlooking Therasia and veiws of Oia which are very good for evening meals. A visit to the beach resort town of Perissa is worth the journey. Reached by bus from Thira centre, it takes approx. 40 minutes at a cost of 1 Euro 50cent. To find 5 miles of black volcanic sands with warm clear waters. I hope this is of some use to you and I really hope you enjoy your holiday.
