San Marino and Duty Free

I'm off to Italy in a couple of weeks and will be visiting San Marino one day whilst I'm there. I know that San Marino is not in the EU and so I should only bring back 200 cigarettes (for example), but does anyone actually check what people are taking in the bus back to Italy? Is it worth trying to bring back more? Or what I get caught?

San Marino entered into a customs union with Italy in 1862, which has remained in place ever since. Consequently San Marino is regarded as part of the EU for customs purposes.

A formal customs union between San Marino and the EU (EEC as it was then) has existed since 1991.
