my passport expires in march 2005, i am going away to france on 4 feb 2005 for 3 nights. will i have any problems getting in and out of the UK? as i think you have to have at least 6months valid??? is this so?

This is what the Foreign & Commonwealth Office site says:

 

"British nationals need a valid passport to enter France."

 

Consequently, if your passport doesn't expire till March, you should be OK.

 


 

That's right, as long as it is valid you are fine.

yeah you will be OK. Do not snarl at any immgration official, I thought there was free travel between EU countries, until you are safely back in Dear Old Blighty.

Yes there should be unimpeded travel under the Treaty of Rome 1957 but as you can see from the FCO site they clearly have not been told yet.

I don't know if intra-EU travel is different, but most countries require at least 6 months validity for any international journey, and in some cases it is the travel provider that does not allow you to board.
Whenever I've been to France on Eurostar, nobody in Paris has even bothered looking at my passport (don't know if this is always true, of course); and there should be no problem coming back via UK passport control
