Why can we not have 2 aisle seats?

On a\airplane me and my partner are traveling with our 2 year old on our lap.I have tried to book 2 aisle seats online but it will not allow me to.
Anyone else experienced this and if so why can we not have 2 aisle seats

I don't know harry, unless as Eddie says it's because of your child travelling with you. We book seats on-line when we fly with airlines where you can pre-book (e.g. Monarch) and we have never had any problem booking cross-aisle seats in the past.

it may just depend on the airline; on BA you can put yourself anywhere you want as long as they're not taken. Perhaps if there are only two seats on each side the airline does not want to be left splitting other couples up?

If your child is 2 I am fairly sure they need their own seat?

Children can sit on a parent`s lap up until 2 years of age

Silly, I agree.

2 aisle seats still leaves 2 intact pairs of seats for other couples.

Depends on the airline but the only reason I can think of, of you not being able to book cross aisle seats is because if you sit on the aisle seat with a baby on your lap and there is an emergency, you will be impeding the exit of the two people on the inside seats.

we always travel as a couple in two aisle seats because my other half is such a fidget I cant stand sitting next to him, plus you dont have to disturb anyone to go to the loo and you have more elbow room to eat, why people want window seats is beyond me apart from take off and landing you cant see much anyway.On the other hand I have never tried to book these seats on line.
