Hi All

I want to apply for my jamaican citizenship (by descent) and wanted to know if I was able to apply for it in Jamaica rather than the UK. I am hoping to go back to Mo Bay in June and would rather not wait for a year for it to be processed here. I have already looked at Pica and jhcuk.org with no luck and I have tried to conact the Jamaican consulate in London also. If anyone has experience of this I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks

Citizenship of a country by descent is normally automatic when the person is the child of another citizen of that country. It's quite common for people to hold citizenship of several countries, sometimes without even knowing it.

You state that you've looked at the PICA website but have you tried emailing the relevant department(s)? If you simply want to check whether you're already a Jamaican citizen (or to see if you're eligible to apply for citizenship), email [email protected]

If you want to apply for a Jamaican passport, email [email protected]

Thanks for your answer, however with Jamaica you do need to receive a citizenship certificate; my mom was born there and I was born here so unfortunately it's not an automatic right, hence all the paperwork that's involved. I have all the documents ready to go but as I will be in Jamaica later this year I wanted to know if I could apply for the certificate there rather than here in the UK as it can take up to a year.

I do appreciate your answer though
