Crete holiday tips

We are planning a trip to Crete this September and would like to stay in a quiet beach place with a small town / villiage nearby probably appartment or small hotel - any tips ?

take a look at Georgeopolis, it is fairly quiet with a good beach and is also on the bus route to a couple of main towns. There are plenty of restuarants and bars and small shops in Georgeopolis but is has a small and friendly feel to it.

Quite nice but not as pretty as Almeryda further to the West. The west side of Crete,I think anyway,is prettier and you wont find much noisy nightlife.Rethymno is quite a big
town and has a lovely atmosphere so maybe somewhere near there.
