Jamaica - for the beaches, the greenery & the people.
France - for the beauty and versatility of the country's scenery, but not for the people!
And since I've been sailing, I have developed a great liking for the Good Old UK's little Isli of Wiggetti. Same language, same currency, not far to go and really nice folk.
The worst place ever is a Pontins holiday camp near Great Yarmouth.......I used to go every Easter to play in a week-long table tennis tournament and always vowed never to return. It was cold, damp, filthy, and they even watered down the beer.....
Well life was just one big paid working holiday for me at one time craft as I was in the Navy as you know !
Difficult to say which was my favourite country as I visited so many. Have never been to Sardinia.
Spent a lot of time in the Far East where ther ship was trading i.e Japan, Singapore, Phillipines, Thailand etc.
Cillit Bang territory, craft !
Nice to see a serious Post from you as I know you are an intelligent woman behind all the banter we all have on the light hearted Posts. One thing about it is there is no nastiness intended, unlike what used to happen on the old AB
vibra my mate went to Jamaica on her honeymoon and said they daren't leave the hotel compound. I've never been but I do like Barbados.........Tortola in the BV islands looks like one of those beach posters of paradise.
One of my best holidays was Marsa Alam (sp) in Eygpt. I booked at as a late deal. The brochure said bars and cafes etc. Turned out it was in the middle of nowhere and the nearest town was an hours drive away.
It was a diving hotel so we done some scuba...which I loved. Met some great people who were sailing the world and spent a few evenings on their boat having a great BBQ..
Other than that we had no choice but to do nothing but swim, eat and sunbathe....It's the only holiday I actually came back from feeling 100% relaxed.
I'm hoping my next holiday will be the best..... I should come back as Mrs Harte :-)
My sister spent a week at Butlins Skegness a few years ago, when the chalets were on the other side of the road to the main complex (maybe they still are?) - on her way to breakfast at around 7-30, she met a couple of rats in the subway coming the other way. Clearly on their way home, she said they almost said to her "wow! fantastic night out!"
I found it to be a bit of a myth about Jamaica being dangerous outside its fancy complexes - it's no more dangerous than a lot of other caribbean islands. We went to Kingston & found many friendly people - you just have to use your common sense, be careful and be friendly.
Hey vibra - Ochos Rios eh? Did you climb up Dunn's River Falls? And more to the point - did you go completely starkers on Negril Beach?!!
