Holiday accommodation, North Norfolk

I need to find self catering accommodation for 3 people for the end of July/beginning of August anywhere in North Norfolk, preferably on the coast. Everywhere half decent and cheap is booked up. It can be a cottage or caravan but NOT Haven/Butlins etc.
Can anyone offer any suggestions/personal recommendations please?

One of the beauties of the North Norfolk coast is that there is not a Butlins, Haven or any other large holiday camp.

I have been on holiday on the North Norfolk coast a few times in the last few years, and love it.

The National Trust have some cottages in Norfolk.

They have probably all gone, but no harm in asking, and you may get a cancellation.

I was recently in that area through work and took my youngest 2 kids with me. They have pleaded with me to take them there on holiday and in a moment of weakness (aided by a bottle of wine) I said I would.
We are going to the Maldives in October so I really don't have much money to spare for this holiday. I'm struggling to find anything available under �700.

While I love the North Norfolk coast, much of it is rather wild and untamed (lots of bird watching, nature, walking etc).

There are only a few towns along that coast, so dont expect a lot of typical seaside things for kids (maybe that is why you want to go there).

The main towns (from West to East) are Hunstanton, Wells, Sherringham and Cromer.

Hunstanton is a lovely Victorian town, with a "modern" bit in the south of the town with fun fair, sea life centre etc.

Hunstanton is the only town on the east coast that faces west (it faces the Wash) so you get great sunsets from the village green.

Wells next the sea has a lovely harbour, and is a little bit touristy (not too bad though).

It has a great walk along the edge of the harbour out to the beach, and when the tide goes out it is one of the largest beaches in the UK.

If you saw the film Shakespeare in Love, the very end scene, with her on her own on a huge beach, was filmed on that beach (Holkam beach).

Hi Mrs O - hope you find something. I had a lovely place at Winterton (near Caister) booked through Hoseasons (their lodges brochure I think.) It was very reasonable and a lovely place. I've booked through them several times and always had a good holiday. They do cottages too.

Sheringham is a lovery little seaside town, locked in a time warp from the 1950s.

Ice cream shops, fish and chip shops etc.

There is the poppy line steam train that starts from there, contributing to the 1950s feel.

Next town along is Cromer, again a small seaside town, with a pier etc.

Have to say though that I did not like Cromer that much, and prefer Hunstanton, Wells and Sherringham.

Try to visit Blakeney point.

A huge spit of land that sticks out to sea and is covered in seals.

Boat trips go out from a number of places along the coast and the seals swim around the boats, you can almost touch them.

The kids will love it.

Note due to the tide the boats go at different times on different days so check before you go.

Not sure if you are watching Kingdom with Stephen Fry.

This is shot in North Norfolk and I recognize Swaffham (this doubles as Market Shipborough where Kingdom's office is).

I have also seen Wells next the sea and Kings Lynn, and at the begining the large beach he is standing on is Holkham Beach.
