The Palace of Versailles is spectacular, you can get to it on the Metro, well worth a visit. Try Notre Dame as well, and The Louvre, all different, all worth seeing. And the cemetary at Pere Lachaise to see the graves of Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison, and others. That should fill your itinerary nicely.
For alternative Paris try The Catacombs, very spooky and the Baccarat Glass Museum/Factory.  The flea market is also very good (but they are expensive fleas).
Hidden secret (if you like architecture). Opposite the Galleries Lafayette in Boulevard Haussmann is a bank, BNP I think. Go inside and have a look at the domed celing. It's wonderful - and free to see! Open secret: Musee d'Orsay for impressionist paintings.
I know it's a long way to go just for a road sign, but the rides around Bois de Boulogne have the most amazing horse symbols: just like those on a merry-go-round. Also in the BdB area are some Art Deco Metro entrances. More something to keep your eyes open for, rather than the object of a quest.
You may also want to see The Luxembourg Gardens if whether permits.  One of the loveliest places I have ever seen!  Also there is a Zoo in the Jardin des Plantes...
