flying with only a driving license

Im from germany and have lived in the uk for 6 years in the meantime my ID cart has run out. Can i use my driving lisense as ID to fly back to germany?

All airlines currently accept a driving licence as ID for travel within the UK (or between the UK and Ireland) only. (Even that is set to change, with Ryanair discontinuing the concession later this year).

No airlines (or other carriers, such as Eurostar or the ferry companies) will accept a driving licence for travel outside of the British Isles. Only a valid passport, or valid national identity card is acceptable. You won't find any exceptions, because all carriers have to comply with the rules set by the Schengen member states.
