There is a maximum hand luggage size which is standard for all airlines. There are stands at airports which you can put your hand luggage into to check that it is not oversize, so you're best sticking to the norm.

At Edinburgh last week they werent going to let me on with my hand luggage as although it fitted into the grill the wheels did not. However, she let it go and nobody else mentioned it going or at Mallaga on return.
There are hand baggage restrictions in place, however, it is 50/50 as to whether or not somebody is going to mention the size and/or weight of what you are carrying. I've travelled with easyJet many times now and because I refuse to pay for hold baggage, my hand baggage is often bulky and heavy, and I have never had a problem.
You have to fit it into their contraption at the check in and if you go on their web site the sizes are given and they are smaller than other airlines!!
They even make you hold up the hand luggage to make sure ,so best be safe and get a small lightweight sports bag, like I did .
