My daughter left her car parked illegally in London (near a dropped kerb) for 3 days. She did not visit the car during that time and on her return she found she had been issued with 3 parking tickets, one for each day for the same offence. She admits the offence but should she have to pay 3 fines?

Yes she should.

This is to prevent the very old trick of continually parking in the same place, day after day, and displaying the same parking ticket.

As Ethel indicates, three fines are payable because the law views her actions as three separate offences. If the law didn't operate in this way, the streets of all the towns around major airports would be blocked by illegally parked vehicles because it would be far cheaper to pay one parking ticket than to pay for a fortnight's parking at the airport.
