Hi all
We are off to New York for Christmas this year. Just wondering what is the probability of snow / is it usual for New York to have snow during December...?
Thanks!

Hi Twinkle

I was lucky to be there 2 Christmas's ago .... got a slight flurry of snow but I think we got more at home in the UK I'm afraid !

Can I suggest you wrap up VERY warm .... was particularly cold, moreso than here and my wife and I got kinda caught a bit of guard as to just how cold it was !!

Can I recommend you go ice-skating in Central Park .... Donald Trump provides the ice .... an amazing experience !

Hi Stevie! Thanks for that. Yes we keep getting warned about just how cold it will be so going to take plenty of scalves, gloves and hats and some good warm walking shoes. We have 6 days there and are doing to Ice Skating at the Rockefeller Centre but I want to do the Central Park one too so will give them both a go. We are all soooo excited and it would be great if it snowed but im sure NY is great whatever the weather.
Thanks again

I went about 3 weeks before Christmas a couple of years ago. It did snow on the day we arrived, about 8 or 9 inches, so when we arrived everything was covered in snow. It looked lovely, especially Central Park. Amazingly by the time we landed all the roads were clear - this country would have ground to a halt! Apart from one brief flurry of snow a couple of days later we didn't actually see it snow. Stevies right though - it can be very cold. I went again in March last year and even though it didn't snow it was VERY cold, minus 8 or 9.
Hi,
My wife and I spent a lot of Christmases there in the 90's and found that the real heavy falls came in late December or early January. It does get a lot colder than London,we found that those Russian style hats with ear muffs were great, even some of the NY cops were wearing them.Whatever the weather its a fantastic city at end of year. The decorations are breathtaking, especially along 5th Ave,enjoy.
i went about 5 years ago on the 13th December and we had snow! it comes down heavily too, we went into a shop and it was dry, when we came out there was about 3inches!

It is very very very cold! I was glad Id packed a woolly hat and thick skying gloves.

Central park looks lovely in the snow
skying??? of course i meant skiing!
I went the day after Boxing Day to take in the New Year and it was snowing when I arrived but turned to rain a couple of days later.

It's bitterly cold - even when it was 'just' rain. Pack your hat, scarf, gloves, jumpers and duffel coat!

I wore a wind proof transatlantic sailors jacket ,a scarf and professional skiing gloves, lol. I had hiking socks and timberland boots - left legs -as a temperature control zone- in jeans, I got chapped legs waiting for Hubby to come out from Apple store buy big in the season change over at your outdoor shop now.

Also unless you like your entertainment in the Liberace plus shmaltz style - save yourself the great expense of a radio city music hall extravaganza.

Loved the iceskating tree gazing @ Rockerfella Plaza. Night time bus tour of the lights great without too much effort.
