Passports for Kerry from the UK??

Please please can someone help. We are travelling to Kerry, ROI by coach and ferry, do we need passports. Tried the passport office and even they cannot tell us. Urgent. We travel this weekend.

You don't generally need your passport to get into Ireland. But some photo ID will almost certainly be required. Your driving licences (if you have photo version) may suffice. Check the website of your ferry carrier or phone them...they should be able to help
I worked for Ryan Air check in at Heathrow and as rja says, you dont need a passport for R.O.I. Airlines prefer passports not because of sercurity ( as they want you to think) it so you cant give your ticket to your friend and he just gets a bus pass with your name on and the airline can;t charge for a name change.Photo I.D like a drivers licence with picture ( provisional will do_ is a must
Maybe I've been lucky but I've done several different ferry crossings from the UK to ROI and nobody has ever asked our car for any ID.
