I'm going to Newquay for a couple of days in June. I've been before but it was a long time ago so I'm wondering -

Best beach to be close to? I know Fistral is meant to be the best but isn't it far from the shops?

Also any recommendations at all on pubs, restaurants, days out - it's for my 21st birthday.

I would suggest staying at 'the boarding house' by fistral, although book quickly as it will fill up - it's very popular, particularly if there is something going on ie. ripcurl boardmasters/beach break etc. Fistral is a short walk to the shops - maybe 10mins max. but on the way to (unsnazzie) central newquay there are lots of caf's and a big supermarket. I wouldn't avoid fistral on the basis that it's far - you won't even notice.
For days out I would recommend checking out st ives or helford passage depending on how far out you want to go. At helford passage you can get a boat + skipper and go on a pub by water crawl.
Although other belluschi's inland are pretty rubbish, the one in newquay is fun, and sailors has alright nights on. It's small enough to search around

Thanks that's a great help, I did originally want to stay near Fistral but then just ended up finding loads of places near to Towan beach. I suppose wherever we stay we're not going to be too far from anything are we? And we're not afraid of walking anyway.

How far would say St.Ives is in the car? Would be great to have a day out there.

The boarding house looks great but I'm going with my boyfriend so don't fancy sleeping in bunks lol

I'd say around 45mins to an hour for St Ives from Newquay.

If you stay by Towan you will probably find that you end up at Fistral anyway it's pretty 'rad dude' haha.

The boarding house, on second thoughts, is not so great a suggestion!

Have fun - and Happy Birthday!
