My kids are USA crazy these days ( I blame the bloody disney channel) and I think they would love a trip to the states over even a sunny hol by the beach. Has anyone found any cheap US deals ???

Depends entirely on where you want to go to, when you want to go and where you want to fly from.

Flying from the London airports is cheaper as there is a greater choice of flights although if you're off to some obscure backwater it will be expensive. Obviously, any time in school holidays will be more expensive. The dollar is weak against the pound at the moment though so anything you want to buy over there is a lot cheaper.

I see it says New York in your title so using that as an example I went to New York last year for a week with the wife for under 600 for flights and accommodation. We were out of season though. We got flights with Air India from Heathrow to JFK for 234 each return and stayed in a $50 a night hostel.

I'd suggest looking on e-bookers.com, opodo.com and travelbookers.com.

Another way to get the flights cheaper is to not fly direct. For example if you choose Air France then you may route via Paris - obviously longer and you have to change planes, but at the same time it's often cheaper.

Hope that helps a bit
I went last March with friends to New York and we got a flight from Manchester direct to New York with BA and stayed in a hotel for under 700 each.
But you really need to decide where in the US you want to go to (it is a BIG place!) and have a good trawl through all the websites. Obviously where you go will depend on the age of your children, mine are teenagers and I think they would really enoy a trip to New York, though Florida would be an obvious destination for children of all ages (we went last year as a family).

Thankyou for the replies. Yes, it was New York I was thinking of. I did see some hotels which were really reasonably-priced; what were the hostels like you stayed in cake boy?
I travelled the states years back and stayed in some dodgy places, obviously don't wanna do that again with kids.
Which is the airport most central to the sights btw? Is it JFK, not sure.
Some good ideas to think about, thankyou again.
Well JFK is the main airport for New York (others may be nearer to Manhatten but flights from the UK would not land there), but also consider flights to Newark as it is not much further than JFK and is about the same travelling time to Manhatten. I flew there a couple of years ago with Continental, and would rather fly with them to Newark than with BA to JFK.
Last time I went I stayed in the Pennsylvania Hotel, but even though they claimed that you had to show your room card to enter the lifts you didn't and so anyone could wander round the hotel, as evidenced by all the pizza takeaway menus etc left outside the rooms. The first time I went I stayed in the Milford Plaza hotel which is just one block from Times Square, this hotel definitely would not let anyone into the lifts unless they showed their room card, so I felt safer in this hotel than in the Penn.

Really, as I said before you need to invest a few hours time at your computer screen working out the best flights, hotels etc. If you're going as a family though I wonder if it would work out cheaper to rent an apartment. You could try googling 'vacation apartment new york' and see what comes up.
