Also can i buy them here and will they work in america?

You can take them on a plane but they must be switched off.

They will work in America but they may not be legal - depending on what frequency band they use.

I could spend ages comparing UK and US frequency allocations for licence-free handheld communications equipment but a much simpler rule is this:

If the walkie-talkies have a label on them stating 'FCC Approved', they're legal to use in the USA. Otherwise it will be illegal to use them and (I strongly suspect) illegal to import them into the USA.
