Lake district and footwear

HI everyone, i'm going to the Lake District next week for the first time. Are wellies suitable or should i get hiking shoes instead?

If you're doing any more than traipsing about in farmyards or wading back and forth to campsite loos, then forget wellies and get a decent pair of hiking shoes/boots combined with a couple of pairs of good quality woollen or cotton blend socks. Take care of them and they'll last you for years.

However ... the best time to buy hiking footwear is several weeks or months before it's needed, so that you can break it in. Long hikes in new shoes or boots are definitely not to be recommended.
